Exam Distinctions

Congratulations to my pupils Lucy and Matias for passing their recent RGT exams with distinction! Lucy took the Acoustic Guitar Grade 3 and played the traditional folk piece Atholl Highlanders and Matias took the Rock Guitar Grade 2 and played The Clash – Should I Stay Or Should I go. That 33 grade exams I have guided guitarists through – a lot passing with distinction.

New school band song

Have a listen to ‘Desert Island’ – the new song from the band ’35’ that I teach at the Norwegian School. For the past year, these guys (aged 8-9yrs) have been learning how to play together, write songs and perform. They have played in front of hundreds at the Norwegian Independence celebrations at Southwark Park, and we recorded this song together at the end of term.

Have a listen to all the songs that bands at the school have put together at their Soundcloud page here.

Guitar Pupil Concert 2016

Last month, I held a concert for all my guitar pupils (of school age) to play something that they had been working on. For most of the group this was their first time performing in public. Some were even singing for the first time too, and there were original compositions as well as covers.

Many congratulations to all who took part. It was really fun working on it, and I’m sure we’ll do something similar next year!

Listen to Sam & Zoe’s songs

Some guitar pupils have recently posted some songs of theirs online. Watch Sam playing his version of John Renbourn’s Transfusion below:

And Zoe has written and recorded a song called ‘Moving On’. We recorded it during the guitar lessons – Zoe is playing all the instruments, and I helped to create the parts and mix the track.
